OUR CHALLENGES
What are some of the challenges that older adults in Brooklyn face?
Some older adults in Brooklyn encounter new social and economic challenges as they age, such as social losses of friends and family that increase risks of social isolation and loneliness, housing insecurity (including rising rents, unsafe living conditions, or homes that are not adapted for aging in place), limited income, lack of access to affordable transportation, and food insecurity can make it harder to meet basic needs.
This page highlights these and other aging-related challenges, while also pointing to local Brooklyn resources that help older adults stay healthy, connected, and independent, such as senior centers, meal programs, affordable housing initiatives, and community-based support groups.
